"I love being a part of something greater than myself," said Cherokee Boose, Technical Instructor at New Horizons Computer Learning Center. "I'm just one gear in this machine that works together to prioritize student success."
Florida native Cherokee Boose loves being a part of "Ah ha!" moments. She loves when the light-bulb comes on and when the puzzle pieces begin to reveal the big picture. She loves helping her students learn, and she loves watching people flourish and grow. Cherokee is a "Top 10" Instructor.
A recent study by corporate New Horizons declared Cherokee one of the top 10 Technical Instructors in the world. With 300+ locations worldwide and an average of 6 instructors per location, this is no small feat.
Cherokee has worked in IT for about 10 years. Her previous work experience ranges from graphic design, to life-guarding, to working as an art gallery curator. Cherokee is the mother of two witty and gorgeous children. Her passions include graphic and interior design, astronomy, and anything beach-related.
Cherokee became an Instructor after the director of her previous educational institution sat in on one of her class presentations. The director was so impressed by the presentation that she asked Cherokee to develop and teach a night course to educate on basic PC use/maintenance and SOHO Security.
"I never really anticipated becoming an Instructor," she said. "I'm an introvert by nature, so I had reservations at first. It wasn’t until students started telling me how much they were actually learning that I truly fell in love with teaching."
Cherokee typically teaches CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, and Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2.
"As children, we ask questions and believe what our teachers tell us to be true," she said. "Adult learners need proof, facts, something tangible. Because of that, I try to use analogies and incorporate real world experiences in my lessons."
One of Cherokee's biggest hopes is that others would understand the importance of continued education, especially in an evolving field like IT.
"IT is not one-size-fits-all," she said. "I would recommend choosing a niche that interests you...and be prepared to change if it wasn’t what you were expecting. I wouldn’t want anyone to be stuck doing something they don’t enjoy or aren't proud of."
Our students are privileged to have Cherokee as an Instructor.
